Computer Science as well as Information and Technology (IT) has a central role to play in pupil’s studies as it has in the world of work. The skills, ideas and projects followed at school therefore have a clear aim, to prepare pupils for their future in an enjoyable purposeful environment.
We use The Hurst Community College VLE to deliver IT at both Key Stage 3 and 4. All pupils can log onto the VLE and give their parents a sneak preview of the topics we follow.
Every student follows a course in IT and Computing in Key Stage 3, with various Key Stage 4 courses available in GSCE IT, Computer Science and Business Studies.
We have 3 fully equipped IT Suites all PCs using Windows 7 in each room and IT is also used in all departments around the site. All teaching staff have a laptop.
We have a small suite of Macs in the art department and clusters of linux "thin Client" PCs that utilise, otherwise obsolete hardware.
