The Science Department at The Hurst is a highly cohesive team of committed professionals who aim to empower pupils and enrich their lives through the study of biology, chemistry and physics at KS3 and KS4.

Outcomes in Triple Science have been consistently outstanding with 60% of pupils gaining top 8/9 grades and good progress made by pupils across the whole ability range.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and inspirational teacher to join our highly regarded Science team. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a friendly and supportive school to help deliver outstanding lessons and ensure good outcomes for all of our students.

The department enjoys spacious facilities. All classrooms and laboratories are well-equipped with a data projector; sound system and a wide range of apparatus.

Thank you for expressing an interest in the post of Deputy Headteacher at The Hurst School. This is an exciting time to be joining the school and this post offers a real opportunity to be part of the school’s transformation and challenge agenda. I joined as a new Headteacher in January 2021 and I am seeking an experienced senior leader to strategically lead on the Quality of Education including Teaching and Learning, assessment, curriculum development and securing better outcomes for our pupils.

The Hurst School is a semi-rural school between Basingstoke and Newbury. It has approximately 1000 students aged 11- 16. The school had an OFSTED rating of “Good” in March 2109. We are looking to consolidate the work already done and also strive to improve our school in every way to gain better outcomes for our students.

We are looking for someone who:

  • has high expectations
  • is ambitious, innovative and dynamic
  • is relentless in pursuing consistently high standards
  • has a track record of delivering sustained improvement
  • has excellent communication and inter-personal skills
