About the Art Department

In Art we offer inclusive schemes of work that cover a variety of Art disciplines, designed to be accessible for every student and to help them achieve their potential.  We believe that there is an 'Art for everyone', and by working in a variety of Art specialisms we enable students to find the Art subject they're best at, as well as developing their artistic skills.

We plan our KS3 projects to develop skills across a variety of Art disciplines, with drawing and design launching each project.  We encourage creativity, independant working, and problem-solving through our schemes of work.

At KS4 we offer four separate courses: Fine Art, Art Textiles, Art Photography and Art Graphics.  We encourage students to work independantly, creatively and to be experimental.  They develop and refine ideas from a given theme to create original and personal outcomes.

Key Stage 4 - Art Specialisms

At Key Stage 4 we offer Art options in four specialisms. The exam board for all four is EdExcel.

60% coursework - made up of a personal portfolio. This portfolio will include evidence of artist studies, experimenting with materials and processes, recording ideas and creating personal responses to themes set by the teacher.

40% exam - includes 8 to 10 weeks of reasearch and development, followed by a 10 hour practical exam. You are expected to be prepared for the exam and enjoy spending two wholes days working on your own art.
