The Hurst Community College
It was a pleasure to see so many of last year's leavers return for a Presentation Evening to celebrate their success whilst at The Hurst. All the students have already matured into fine young adults, enjoying their time in further education. The evening was presented by Mr Jones and Mr Hunt with inspirational and often humorous speeches from each Head of House. Ex- Head Boy and Girl; Dom Smith and Becky Herbert both spoke, sharing funny memories and anecdotes from their 5 years with us. All students were presented with their exam certificates from our Chair of Governors; Professor Norman Godfrey, with some receiving a personal gift in recognition for their effort and success in a subject area.
We are incredibly proud to announce that our IT teacher Mrs Molton, has achieved a CAS Master Teacher Award and The Hurst is now a Lead School in the Network of Excellence. This will allow us to offer support to other schools in our community through sharing good practice, lesson observation and team teaching. This reflects Mrs Molton's expertise and commitment to computing and computer science.
‘Record Maths Results at The Hurst!’
An outstanding 83% of pupils attained a grade 4 or higher in the new Mathematics GCSE, with 75% of pupils attaining a grade 4 or higher in the new English GCSE. This is despite the new GCSEs having more challenging content.
The new top grade (9), which only a few thousand pupils across the country are expected to achieve, was awarded to Hurst pupils in both English and Mathematics – a stunning achievement.
Excellent results were also seen in Art, Chemistry, Drama, Engineering, German, Media Studies, Music, Physics, Product Design, Religious Studies and Resistant Materials.
We wish all our Year 11 leavers all the best for the future.
A final gathering together at Leavers Prom with spectacular arrivals, suits and dresses. Everyone enjoyed a fantastic evening before a final farewell. We wish them all good luck for the future!
