The Hurst Community College
Not only was our Winter Spectacular Music Concert a huge success, we have pleasure in announcing that we have been awarded the Music Mark, in recognition of the dedication of our Music Department delivering a broad and balanced curriculum. We would like to thank and congratulate Mrs Long and her team for all the hard work and encouragement given to students. If you have never had the pleasure in attending one of our music concerts, you should take the opportunity to experience the wide range of talent our students have to offer. Keep an eye out for any future music events on the school calendar.
At the recent Skillstree Awards, we are very proud to announce that we won the School's Award in recognition of the success of our careers programme. We arrange a full week of careers related activities for our Yr 10 students to help prepare them for the world of work and to highlight the skills employers are looking for in applicants. The week includes workshops, a small business challenge, communication and team building skills, a careers fair and a mock interview day. This week has proved to provide students with essential skills for the future, thus increasing their confidence. The Mayor of Basingstoke attended the evening which celebrated the time and commitment businesses, schools and colleges invest in projects that support young people's preparation for adult life and work.
It was a pleasure to see so many of last year's leavers return for a Presentation Evening to celebrate their success whilst at The Hurst. All the students have already matured into fine young adults, enjoying their time in further education. The evening was presented by Mr Jones and Mr Hunt with inspirational and often humorous speeches from each Head of House. Ex- Head Boy and Girl; Dom Smith and Becky Herbert both spoke, sharing funny memories and anecdotes from their 5 years with us. All students were presented with their exam certificates from our Chair of Governors; Professor Norman Godfrey, with some receiving a personal gift in recognition for their effort and success in a subject area.
