In Design Technology we combine practical and technological skills with the ability to design a range of products. We teach communication skills including traditional graphic techniques and computer aided design. We study designing, making food dishes, using resistant materials such as wood and plastics and systems and control.
We have three workshops, two kitchens and a CAD-CAM studio. All classrooms are fitted with interactive smartboards and 1 of the workshops has recently been refurbished with 20 flat screen plasma computers. The workshops are equipped with a comprehensive range of modern CNC machinery, including a Denford vertical router, CNC milling machine, manual metal working lath, Denford micro router, laser cutter, vacuum forming machines and a heat treatment room, all used to produce a variety of quality products from small Art Deco boxes to guitar bodies and Acrylic-based projects. The kitchens have been refurbished recently.
The Hurst offer 4 specialism areas in Technology at GCSE/BTEC for Key Stage 4. The Option choices available are Catering, Product Design, Graphic Design and Engineering.
