The Hurst Community College
Each year, the Royal Geographical Society awards prizes to geography students who are the highest scoring candidates in public examinations.
We were delighted to hear that Samuel Randewich achieved the highest mark across the country in the GCSE Geography examination last summer and has been given the Society’s Excellence Award.
‘’I absolutely was not expecting this award but I am thrilled to have received it. I would like to thank my Geography teacher, Mrs Woods, for all the effort she made to inspire me to work hard and for making the lessons so enjoyable.’’
This award is thoroughly deserved. Sam is a highly motivated, hard-working student who had a diligent and inspirational teacher in Mrs Woods. It truly was a winning combination!
The exam season is well and truly upon us. We would like to wish all our Year 11 students the best of luck during this time.

113 pupils along with 15 staff endured a 23 hour coach trip to Zell Am See in Austria this Easter. The weary travellers arrived and quickly equiped themselves for the slopes. Many pupils (and staff!) were not experienced skiers but with the help of fantastic instructors, soon mastered the 'snow plough' (the essential art of stopping!) and braved the slopes. Confidence and ability grew throughout the week which ended with the whole group going to the Glacier at nearly 3000m above sea level. Skiing was not the only thing the students enjoyed, with the accommodation offering evening activities including cinema, disco and sports events. We would like to thank the students for their impeccable behaviour throughout the week and the staff who attended to make the trip possible. It was an amazing week and will have created some life long memories.
