The Hurst Community College
133 pupils along with 15 staff endured a 23 hour coach trip to Zell Am See in Austria this Easter. The weary travellers arrived and quickly equiped themselves for the slopes. Many pupils (and staff!) were not experienced skiers but with the help of fantastic instructors, soon mastered the 'snow plough' (the essential art of stopping!) and braved the slopes. Confidence and ability grew throughout the week which ended with the whole group going to the Glacier at nearly 3000m above sea level. Skiing was not the only thing the students enjoyed, with the accommodation offering evening activities including cinema, disco and sports events. We would like to thank the students for their impeccable behaviour throughout the week and the staff who attended to make the trip possible. It was an amazing week and will have created some life long memories.
The rain did little to dampen Year 7 spirits as they cheered on their cars on Monday! RAF Odiham personnel fired the rockets that powered the winning car to a top speed of just over 30mph. The overall winners judged on a combination of design and speed were Keyah Salter, Poppy O’Reilly, Charlotte Long and Lily Thomas who will now represent The Hurst at the regional finals in April. The girls will have the opportunity to design and make a new car to race on the day. Good luck girls – we look forward to hearing how you get on.
